So I finally gave in and went to a spin class at my gym. Since I’ve been paying a membership for the past god-knows-how long, thought I might as well make use of it at last. So, after a slightly late exit from work, and a slightly later than hoped dinner, the MISSUS @nd I packed our stuff, sent the dog off with the in-laws for a couple of nights and up the hill we went.
Gruelling. For the stand-up efforts, I must admit, I got light headed. During the sprint moments I genuinely felt sick. 45 minutes of what a part time mountain biker and an even less extra curricular road cyclist though would be horrific (specially as it’s my first time) was absolutely horrible, but brilliant at the same time. Hard work yes, feeling terrible yes, feeling good afterwards, yes. Much like, and wait for it, the feeling you get before a paid gig.
I’ve done a few shoots now on a genre of photography I’ve never done before. Fitness shoots, corporate style head-shots, even a time-pressured mock wedding shoot to provide marketing material for a website. The is something genuinely gut wrenching when you think about the potential consequences. Getting paid for this line of work is the ultimate goal, but also amazingly terrifying. However, when it got down to it, taking in the environment and knowing your kit, and knowing that you know what your doing, came out with some great results.
I also unfortunately now feel the need to spend a fortune on more powerful lighting, just don’t tell the missus,,,,
